After a great weekend celebrating Josh’s graduation, we had the joy of driving through a series of really nasty freezing cold thunderstorms to our overnight destinations in Joliet, Illinois and Urbandale, Iowa.
The highlight of that part of our trip was giving Wilma a bath and trim at the TownePlace Suites in Joliet. Here she is, looking her best…..as seen on her Instagram account Wilmathegolden.
We finally arrived in Omaha on Tuesday for a couple of days of visiting with family and friends. Tuesday was our day with Janie and Al Murow, starting with a nice picnic lunch, and ending with an outstanding smoked salmon dinner. I even had the pleasure of participating in a facetime call with their daughter Rebecca and 18 month old granddaughter Ella. Ella sang (her special version of) Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for me, and she mastered “Bye Bye Bob”. So cute!
Wednesday started with a visit to our Omaha hair stylist Leah, at Trios Salon. Leah cut our hair while we were visiting in Omaha during our 2015 road trip, so it was fun seeing her again and getting caught up on the past 2 years. I don’t think we included the category “cities where we got haircuts” in our last summary, so here it is: Orlando, Columbia, St. Louis, Boston, Washington DC, Seattle, San Diego (twice), Omaha (twice), Wilmington, and College Station. And of course Wilma has been groomed in Pacific Grove, and Durham! So……if anyone needs a referral while traveling….
Post grooming, we got together with Marcy (Robin’s best childhood friend) and son K.C. Ruback for lunch. Poor Marcy is recovering from foot surgery, so we brought in burgers and salads and had a nice visit at her home. Marcy and K.C. have a pet Golden Retriever, Jasmine, so Wilma had a very active day playing chase in the backyard. Needless to say, Wilma slept very well last night!
And to cap off another great Omaha visit, we had dinner with Mark and Julie Martin (Robin’s brother and sister-in-law), nephew David, niece Rachel, and Rachel’s boyfriend Dan. We had a wonderful meal (especially the apple crisp….my mother-in-laws recipe) at their home, and just loved catching up with everyone. Can’t wait for our family reunion this summer!
Before leaving Omaha this morning, we made a couple of sentimental stops to see Robin’s childhood home and the Micklin Lumber & Hardware Building (the family business that will soon be student apartment housing for Creighton University).
On the way to North Platte, Nebraska, this happened:
Guess the old home really is old!
We arrived in North Platte, Nebraska this afternoon, visited the local dog park, picked up a Godfather’s pizza for dinner and are settling in for the Warriors game. Go Dubs!
